Oak Cottage
Oak Cottage is in Littlebeck, North Yorkshire. It's a converted sandstone barn, so the walls are thick and it feels solid. You get a fair bit of privacy.
It sleeps six people. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. One bedroom and its ensuite are on the ground floor, which is handy if you don't want to do stairs. The other two bedrooms are upstairs. The stairs are stone, so they're quite steep and a bit uneven, but there's a good handrail.
It's got a 4 Star rating. What that means in practice is it's warm and comfortable, with decent appliances. There's an open fire in the living room. The kitchen has a dishwasher. There's a boot room for wet coats and boots, which you'll need.
The location is the main thing. It's about a twenty minute drive to Whitby one way, and about fifteen minutes to Robin Hood's Bay the other way. You're right in the middle of the North York Moors. The Coast to Coast path goes past nearby. The North York Moors National Park site has good walking information.
The Falling Foss waterfall and the tea garden there are about a ten minute walk through the woods from the cottage. It's a nice short stroll.
You can bring up to two dogs. There's parking for two cars on the gravel right outside.
For days out, Whitby has the abbey and the harbour. English Heritage run the abbey. Robin Hood's Bay is good for a wander. The moors are all around you for walking. Scarborough is about forty minutes by car if you want a bigger town.
Bedding and towels are included. There's a washing machine, a TV, and WiFi. The WiFi is okay but it can be slow, it's a rural thing.
