Mortar Barn is on our farm, just outside Sneatonthorpe. It's a barn conversion, about two hundred years old, so you get the stone walls and beamed ceilings. The floors are stone flags in the main room. It sleeps eight, in four bedrooms. There are three bathrooms, which helps with a group that size. It has the top rating.
You're on a working arable farm. The views from the back look out over fields towards the sea and Whitby. It's quiet.
The village of Sneaton is a mile down the lane. It has a pub, a tea room, and an ice cream place. For a proper shop, you'd go into Whitby, which is about four miles. The coast is about the same distance.
From the door, you can get straight onto footpaths and bridleways. The old Monks Pathway is popular. You're on the edge of the North York Moors National Park and the Heritage Coast. Robin Hood's Bay, Runswick Bay, and Staithes are all along the coast, maybe twenty minutes in the car. Whitby has the abbey, the harbour, and a sandy beach. In summer, the steam train runs from there to Grosmont and Goathland.
Facilities: it has a woodburner, a washing machine, a dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. There's an enclosed garden with a barbecue and parking. You can bring up to two dogs. We have a cot and highchair if you need them.
