The Cottage at Stainsacre Hall is a one-bedroom place, just for two. It's detached, so it's nice and quiet. You get a little deck outside the back door with a table and chairs. The garden behind it is shared, but it's big and leads down into a private bit of woods. We've seen deer down there in the evening.
It's been done up recently. It's all on one level, which is handy, and it has underfloor heating. The main room is open plan. Kitchen at one end, sofa at the other. There's a decent TV and the wifi works fine. The bed is a kingsize. The bathroom has both a bath and a separate shower cubicle.
The village of Stainsacre is very quiet. There's a local pub about a five minute walk away. They do good food. The nearest shop is about three quarters of a mile.
Whitby is less than ten minutes in the car. You've got the harbour, the Abbey, all that. The beach at Sandsend is lovely, and it's about the same drive. Right on the doorstep is the Cinder Track, which is an old railway line. You can walk or cycle from Whitby all the way to Robin Hood's Bay or Scarborough on it without going on a road. The Cleveland Way coastal path is close by too.
If you drive for twenty minutes or so, you can get right onto the North York Moors. The North York Moors National Park website has good walking routes. Dalby Forest is about half an hour away, good for mountain biking. There's also the steam railway from Pickering to Whitby if you fancy that.
Practical stuff: it's a 4 Star rating. One well-behaved dog is welcome. We provide all the bedding and towels. There's a cot and highchair if you need them. Parking is right outside the cottage.
