Riverside Cottage is just over a mile from Whitby town centre. It's in a quiet spot by the river. You get your own little garden bit and there's a bigger communal lawn that goes down to the water. You'll see herons and ducks. People do feed the ducks, they tend to come up to you.
It sleeps six, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating. The place is clean and comfortable. It's over three floors, so there are stairs. They're normal house stairs, not too steep.
You can walk into Whitby in about twenty minutes, across the viaduct. The famous steam train to Grosmont passes by sometimes. You can hear it.
For getting out on the water, you can launch kayaks or paddleboards from near the cottage. Up in Ruswarp, which is the next village along the river, you can hire rowing boats.
It's right next to the Cinder Track, which is the old railway line for walking and cycling. It goes all the way to Scarborough. For the coast, places like Robin Hood's Bay, Runswick Bay and Staithes are a short drive away. Scarborough is about twenty minutes by car.
In Whitby itself, there's the abbey, the pier, and all the usual shops and places to eat. They have festivals sometimes, like the Goth Weekends.
Facilities: there's parking on site, WiFi, a TV, a dishwasher, and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. We allow one well-behaved dog. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them.
