The Hideaway

The Hideaway is in Sleights, a village just outside Whitby. It's a ground floor apartment, part of a bigger house. We updated it a few years ago so it's pretty fresh inside.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms. The main bedroom has its own en-suite shower room. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well-equipped.

The back garden is enclosed and just for you. There's parking right outside the door.

You've got a shop and a couple of pubs about a hundred yards away. The village butcher is famous locally. The North York Moors steam train comes through the station here, which is a nice sight.

It's about four miles to Whitby. There's a good footpath that follows the old railway line along the River Esk most of the way, past Briggswath. You can see salmon leaping there at certain times of year. Whitby's the main draw: the abbey, the harbour, the beaches. The 199 steps up to the church are exactly that. It's a proper working town with a lot going on.

Coast-wise, you can walk north to Sandsend, or south along the old cinder track towards Robin Hood's Bay. Scarborough is about a twenty-five minute drive down the coast.

For the moors, you're right on the edge. The bus from Whitby to Pickering goes through here. It's a spectacular route through Goathland and Grosmont. For walks and planning, the North York Moors National Park site is useful.

Inside, there's a washing machine, a dishwasher, WiFi, and a TV. Bedding and towels are included. We can put a cot and highchair in if you need them. No pets, sorry.
