Murmuration Cottage is in Whitby town centre, just off Church Street. It's in a little terraced row called Rose and Crown Yard. The front door is on a small yard, so it's quiet even though you're a minute's walk from everything.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well looked after. The layout is upside down. The kitchen is on the ground floor when you come in, the living room is up a floor, and the two bedrooms are up another floor from there. The stairs are standard cottage stairs, not too bad. The view from the back bedroom windows over to the Abbey is the main thing. You can see the starlings swirling around it sometimes, which is where the name comes from.
You've got a pub about 50 yards away and places to eat even closer. The co-op is round the corner. The beach and harbour are a five minute walk down the hill.
Whitby itself is all right there. The 199 steps up to the Abbey are as steep as they sound. The view is good though. The town has the Goth weekends and the Regatta, so it can get busy then.
For getting out, you're right on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Robin Hood's Bay is about ten minutes' drive south. The Cleveland Way footpath runs along the coast if you want a proper walk. The steam train from Pickering goes through Grosmont, which is about a twenty minute drive inland.
Facilities: there's a small patio garden out the back, a washing machine, TV, WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs. There's no dedicated parking, but there are pay and display car parks nearby, and sometimes you can find on-street parking a bit further up.
