Capstan Cottage is in Whitby, but it's just outside of the main town. It's on a small holiday park. It's quiet. You get a designated parking space.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, one bathroom. It's a 4 Star place. The layout is unusual, it's an upside-down house. The bedrooms are all on the ground floor. The living room and kitchen are upstairs. That's because the upstairs has a small balcony with a good view of the old railway viaduct.
You can see the North York Moors steam train from there sometimes, going along the river. It's a nice thing to watch. The balcony doors open, so you get the sound of the birds too.
To get into Whitby itself, you walk. It's about 20 minutes across the viaduct. That gets you to the harbour and the shops. Whitby's a proper fishing port. It's got the Abbey on the cliff, fish and chip shops, and all the usual seaside things.
The old railway line behind the cottage is now a path. They call it the Cinder Track. You can walk or cycle to Scarborough on it if you're feeling energetic. In the other direction, it goes into Whitby.
On the park itself, there's some green space, a kids' play area, and picnic tables. They provide gas barbecues in the summer. If you walk down to the river, you might see herons. People say they've seen seals sometimes.
Other places nearby: Robin Hood's Bay is about six miles down the coast. It's good for rock pools. Sandsend is the other way, closer to Whitby. The North York Moors are right there. You can get the steam train from Whitby to Pickering. Goathland station is on that line, which some people know from TV.
Facilities: there's a washing machine, TV, WiFi. Bedding is included. We can provide a cot and highchair. There's a local pub about a mile away. Sorry, no pets.
