The Byre

The Byre is a converted barn near Raithwaite, on the edge of Sandsend. It looks straight out over the fields to the sea and Whitby Abbey. You get a good view of it from the decking. The garden is enclosed, which is useful.

It sleeps four in two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. It’s a 4 Star place, which means it’s comfortable. It feels solid. Stone floors with underfloor heating, high beamed ceilings. You come in through the conservatory doors.

Sandsend beach is about a fifteen minute walk down the lane. It’s a long sandy beach that goes all the way to Whitby. The village has a shop, a couple of cafés, and a pub. There’s a surf school there too.

Whitby is about two miles along the coast. You can walk it on the beach if the tide is out, or drive in a few minutes. It’s got the abbey, the old town, and the usual fish and chip shops. The heritage steam railway runs from there to Pickering, through the moors.

You’re right by the Cleveland Way for walking. One way takes you towards Whitby, the other leads to Staithes, Runswick Bay, and Robin Hood’s Bay. All worth a visit.

For facilities, it has a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and parking. Bedding and towels are included. No pets.
