Tidal Retreat is a one-bed apartment for two people in Whitby. It's on the first floor, so there are stairs to get in. You get one private parking space, which is a real help in Whitby.
It's a four star place. That means it's modern and comfortable. Good Wi-Fi, a washing machine, all the bedding and towels are there. Pets are allowed.
The main thing is the location. You're up the hill a bit from the harbour, about a five or ten minute walk down. You can see the River Esk from the communal garden. It gets busy in the town centre in summer, but it's quiet up here.
Whitby itself is all on your doorstep. Pubs, fish and chips, the lot. The Abbey is up the 199 steps. The local tour bus stops nearby if you don't fancy the climb.
For walking, you can join the Cleveland Way coastal path easily. The old railway line to Robin Hood's Bay, the Cinder Track, starts close by. It's flat and good for cycling. A 30 minute drive gets you into the North York Moors.
Along the coast, Robin Hood's Bay, Staithes and Sandsend are all worth a trip. You can get a steam train from Pickering into the moors, or just drive. York is about an hour if you fancy a city day.
It's a straightforward place. Good for a couple, with or without a dog, who want to be able to walk into Whitby and explore the coast.
