Wheel House
Wheel House is a converted barn on Fern Farm, just outside Normanby village. It’s basically a modern box built into the side of the old farm buildings. You get views out over the fields towards Whitby. You can see the abbey from the front.
It sleeps four in two bedrooms, one double and one twin. Both have their own en-suite shower rooms. It’s got a 4 Star rating, which means it’s well equipped and finished to a good standard. It’s open plan downstairs.
You’re about ten minutes’ drive from Whitby. It’s a proper working town with fish and chips, shops, and the usual seaside stuff. The abbey is up the 199 steps. The North York Moors National Park starts pretty much on your doorstep if you want walking.
Robin Hood’s Bay is closer, maybe five minutes in the car. It’s that old fishing village with steep, narrow streets down to the sea. Better for a wander than for shopping.
For a day out, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway steam train goes from Whitby to Pickering. Dalby Forest is about half an hour’s drive for cycling or walking. Scarborough is roughly forty minutes if you want a bigger beach or the Alpamare waterpark.
Facilities are all there: WiFi, TV, parking, a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs. There’s a cot available if you need one. The owner can sometimes arrange in-house massage treatments, but you’d need to book and pay for that separately.
If you’ve got a bigger group, you can rent this one with the other two cottages on the farm.
