Rowan Cottage
Rowan Cottage is in Aislaby, a small village in the North York Moors. It's an old quarryman's house, built from local sandstone in the early 1800s. It sleeps four, in two bedrooms, and there's one bathroom. It has a 4 Star rating.
The main thing is the location. You're in a quiet village, but you're only about ten minutes by car from Whitby. The bus from the village into Whitby is straightforward if you don't want to drive.
The cottage has wooden floors and exposed beams. It's got a wood burning stove for cooler nights. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a washing machine. WiFi works fine. There's a Smart TV.
Outside, there's a south-facing front garden. There's also a summerhouse at the back that looks out over the fields. It gets the evening sun.
The village pub is about a 150 yard walk. They serve food and real ale. The nearest shop for basics is two miles away in Sleights, but you'll probably do a bigger shop in Whitby.
You can walk straight from the door. The Esk Valley Walk goes through the village. If you follow it, you can walk to Grosmont, which is where you get the North York Moors Railway steam train.
By car, you're very close to the coast. Robin Hood's Bay, Staithes, and Runswick Bay are all within a 20-30 minute drive. The Cleveland Way national trail is nearby for longer coastal walks. The North York Moors National Park authority site has good walking information.
Whitby has everything: beaches, the abbey, and plenty of shops and places to eat. York is about an hour's drive south if you want a day out in the city.
Facilities included are all listed: bedding, towels, cot, highchair, stairgate. There's parking. Sorry, no pets.
