Lilac Cottage
Lilac Cottage is in Grosmont, right on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. It's a two-bedroom terrace house that sleeps four. You get a front garden and a back one, plus a parking space.
Inside, there are two living areas. The one at the front has a sofa bed and a gas fire. The main living room is open plan with the dining area and has a wood burning stove. The kitchen leads off from there. It's a bit cottagey, but it's got what you need. There's also a large conservatory with a football table, which is useful if the weather's bad. Off the conservatory is a utility room with a toilet.
Upstairs are two double bedrooms and a family bathroom with a shower over the bath.
The back garden is enclosed. It's an unusual shape because it used to be a turning circle for horses and carts. There's a patio, then some steep, narrow steps up to a higher level.
The village pub is a few minutes' walk away. They do good food and beer. There are a couple of cafes and an art gallery in the village too. The main thing here is the steam railway. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway runs right through Grosmont. You can get the train to Goathland, which is the Heartbeat village, or all the way to Pickering or Whitby.
Whitby is about seven miles away for the coast, fish and chips, and the abbey. Dalby Forest is ten miles for walking and cycling trails. For a full day out, the North York Moors National Park website has good information. If you're planning trips to the coast, Welcome to Yorkshire is useful.
Facilities: it's a 3 Star place, so comfortable and clean. There's a washing machine, WiFi, and a TV. Bedding and towels are included. A highchair is available. You can bring up to two dogs. There's parking on site.
