Lilac Cottage
Lilac Cottage is in Grosmont, North Yorkshire. It's at the end of a little private road. You get one parking space, and it has a front and back garden.
It sleeps four. Two double bedrooms upstairs. One bathroom, shower over the bath. It's a 3 Star place, so it's comfortable and clean but not show-home fancy.
The layout is a bit different. You come into a front living room with a sofa bed and a gas fire. Double doors open into the main living area with the wood burner. That room opens into the kitchen, which is small but has everything you need. There's a big conservatory with a football table off the back. The utility room and a toilet are on the ground floor too.
The back garden is enclosed. There's a patio, then some steep, narrow steps going up to a higher level. The garden's an odd shape because it used to be a turning circle for horses and carts.
Grosmont is a small village, mostly known for the steam trains. The local pub is about three minutes' walk. They do good beer and food. There are a couple of cafes and an art gallery in the village.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway runs right through. You can get the train to Whitby or Pickering. Whitby's about seven miles away. It's a proper fishing port with good seafood. The North York Moors National Park is all around for walking. Dalby Forest is about ten miles, if you want cycling or walking trails.
For a day out, you've got the coast at Whitby, or National Trust spots along the Yorkshire coast like Ravenscar, within half an hour. Places like Flamingoland or the Sea Life Centre are about a 40-minute drive.
