Mallard Cottage is in a place called Green End up in the North Yorkshire Moors. It's an old miner's cottage from the 1860s. You get your own parking space and a garden.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one's a double, the other has bunk beds. There's one bathroom. It's a 3 Star place, so it's clean and everything works, but don't expect luxury. The decor is simple. It's got thick walls and low ceilings in places, very much a proper old cottage.
The main thing here is the view and the trains. You can see the steam trains from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway chuffing past from the windows. The line is right there, working up the hill. You hear them, which I like, but if you want total silence it's worth knowing.
Grosmont station is about a mile's walk away along the rail trail. You can get a steam train from there to Goathland or all the way to Whitby or Pickering. Goathland station is the one they used as Hogsmeade in the Harry Potter films.
You're about a 20 minute drive from Whitby. Robin Hood's Bay and Staithes are along the coast too. For walking, you're right in the middle of it. The North York Moors National Park website has good trail maps.
Inside, there's a washing machine, WiFi, and a TV. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and a highchair. The entrance and ground floor are level, but the bathroom is upstairs. There's a pub and a shop about a mile away in Grosmont.
