Tilly's Cottage is on our farm, Thornhill Farm, about a mile outside Goathland. It's part of the old farm buildings from the 1860s. We're a working sheep farm, so you'll see the sheep in the fields around. It's quiet out here, even when the village is busy.
It sleeps six. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating. The place is big inside, but mind your head on the beams. The stairs are steep, especially the ones to the top bedroom. That's the 'coffin drop' you might have read about. Two of the bedrooms look straight out over the moor.
You've got an open fire to use. There's a woodburner too. The kitchen has a dishwasher and washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking right outside. We allow up to two dogs. The garden is yours to use, and there's a barbecue.
We keep two electric bikes here for guests. They're a good way to get about without taking the car. You can get into Goathland easily, or up the Roman Road.
The shop and pub are in Goathland, about a mile and a half walk. The pub does food. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway steam trains run right past one of our fields. You can get a good picture from the cottage. The station in Goathland is where you can catch it to Whitby or Pickering.
Whitby is about a 20 minute drive. You've got the harbour, the Abbey, all of that. For walking, you're right on the edge of the North York Moors. The North York Moors National Park site has walking routes. Goathland is the 'Aidensfield' from Heartbeat, if that's your thing. The cottage was used in some of the filming.
