Fern Lea

Fern Lea is in Sleights. It’s a big, semi-detached Edwardian house. Sleeps ten, five bedrooms, three bathrooms. It’s got a 4 Star rating. The place is spacious and the views over the valley are good.

It’s about four miles from the middle of Whitby. The village shop is five hundred yards away. There’s a pub and a restaurant about three hundred yards from the house. Both are fine.

The stairs are a typical house staircase, not too steep. The garden is enclosed. There’s parking for a couple of cars. You can bring up to two dogs.

Facilities are listed, but the main ones are: WiFi, TV, dishwasher, washing machine, cot and highchair if you need them. Bedding and towels are included. There’s a barbecue.

For walking, you can get straight onto the bridleways from the door. Whitby has the harbour, the abbey ruins, and a long sandy beach. Ruswarp village is walkable and has a miniature railway and boat hire on the river.

About six miles away is Goathland, the Heartbeat village. You can get the steam train from there across the moors to Pickering. It’s a good day out.

Scarborough is further south, maybe a forty minute drive. York is about an hour’s drive if you want a city day.
