The Merry Gull is in Whitby. It's a terraced house on a normal residential street, about a ten minute walk from the harbour. You get off-street parking for one car, which is useful because the streets can get busy.
It sleeps eight in four bedrooms. There are two bathrooms, one on each floor. It's a 4 Star place. It's comfortable and well looked after, but it's a family house, not a show home.
The layout is a bit unusual. The main bathroom is downstairs. It's got a pebble-tiled floor. The stairs are steep, like a lot of old cottages here. Up on the first floor are two king bedrooms and another bathroom with a shower and a roll-top bath. Then there's a second, steeper flight of stairs up to the attic where the two twin rooms are. One bed in each room is under the eaves. You can see Whitby Abbey from one of the skylights up there.
Inside, it's got high ceilings and tall windows, so it feels light. There's a wood burner in the front room. The kitchen is a galley style, but it's got everything you'd need: dishwasher, washing machine, coffee machine. The dining room has a big table for everyone. There's a record player with some old vinyl if you fancy that.
Outside, there's a small front garden with a table and chairs. At the back is a decked courtyard with fairy lights. It gets the sun in the morning. It's a nice spot for a coffee.
There's a local shop for basics, a butcher, a chippy, and a pub all within a couple of minutes' walk. The beach is about a fifteen minute walk. You can get down to the sands or walk along the pier.
In Whitby itself, you've got the Abbey, the 199 Steps, and all the usual harbour things. For a good walk, you can get straight onto the Cleveland Way coastal path. The North York Moors National Park starts just outside town. Robin Hood's Bay is about a fifteen minute drive south. Scarborough is about half an hour down the coast.
Facilities: it has WiFi, a Smart TV with Netflix, all bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. No pets, sorry.
