Kiln Cottage is in Whitby's Old Town, up a little gated yard off Church Street. It's a Grade II listed place, one of a pair in a private yard. It feels very quiet once you're through the gate, even though you're right in the middle of things.
It sleeps four, two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's been done up to a good standard. The front door opens into the living room, which leads through to a decent sized kitchen and dining area. Upstairs, one bedroom has a super king bed, the other a double. The shower room has a Velux window you can see the 199 Steps and the church from.
Being old, it has its things. The stairs are proper cottage stairs, so they're a bit steep and narrow. The internal doors are the old ledge and brace type, which are quite heavy. There's a beam in the living room they say came from an old ship.
You're about a minute's walk from the bottom of the 199 Steps. The harbour, the old market, and plenty of pubs and cafes are just around the corner. Fortune's Smokehouse, famous for kippers, is on Henrietta Street nearby. For the beach, Tate Hill Sand is the closest, just down the lane.
It's a good spot for walking the Cleveland Way along the coast, or up to the Abbey. You can get all the history about Captain Cook and Bram Stoker in town. There's a golf course on the West Cliff.
Facilities: it has parking for one car, which is a big plus in Whitby. It has WiFi, a TV, a washing machine, and a dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs.
