Kiln Cottage Whitby
Kiln Cottage is in the middle of Whitby's Old Town. It's a Grade II listed place, one of a few around a gated yard just off Church Street. You're right at the bottom of the 199 steps up to the church.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. The cottage has low beams and traditional doors, the sort of thing you'd expect. The stairs are steep, but they're fine if you take your time. The shower room upstairs has a Velux window with a view of the steps and the church.
It's very quiet in the yard, but you step out and you're immediately in the middle of everything. The old market, pubs, cafes, and the harbour are all a minute's walk away. Fortune's Smokehouse, for the kippers, is just around the corner on Henrietta Street.
The kitchen is open plan and has a dishwasher and washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs.
For walks, you're on the coast path straight away. The beach at Tate Hill Sands is a couple of minutes down the lane. For a bigger beach, the one by the West Cliff is about a fifteen minute walk.
If you're driving out, Robin Hood's Bay is about ten minutes south. The North York Moors are about twenty minutes inland. The North York Moors National Park site has good information. For local history, the English Heritage page for Whitby Abbey is useful.
