It’s Calico Cottage, in Whitby. You’re just off Church Street, up a little side lane. It’s quiet there, but you’re only a minute’s walk from the old town and the harbour.
It’s for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It’s got a 4 Star rating. It’s small and historic. It was a pump house in the 1600s, then a jet worker’s home. There’s a natural well under the kitchen floor.
You get in via five stone steps at the front. The kitchen is compact but has what you need. The bathroom is on the ground floor with a shower over the bath. The stairs from the kitchen go up to the living room. It’s cosy, with a sofa, armchair, and an electric stove. The bedroom is on the next floor up. It has a double sleigh bed.
You can bring two dogs. Whitby’s good for them, with the beaches and plenty of dog-friendly pubs.
From the door, you can walk to everything. The harbour, the 199 steps up to the Abbey, the shops. The replica of Captain Cook’s ship, the HMS Endeavour, is in the harbour. The North York Moors National Park is right on your doorstep. The Cleveland Way coastal path runs through town if you want a long walk.
The facilities are straightforward. WiFi, TV, bedding and towels are included. There’s parking, but it’s not on site. You’d need to use a public car park nearby.
