The Retreat

The Retreat is a second-floor apartment on Flowergate in Whitby town centre. It's above the shops, but the main window faces away from the street so it's quiet.

It sleeps six, with three bedrooms and one main bathroom. There's an extra toilet downstairs which is useful. The second bedroom upstairs has its own ensuite shower. One nice thing is the glass doors in the living area that open onto a balcony. You can look out over the rooftops towards the Abbey. It's a good spot for a cup of tea.

Everything's on two levels. The stairs inside the flat are fine, standard for an apartment.

You get one underground parking space, which is included. In Whitby centre, that's a big plus.

The place is rated 4 Star. It's got everything you need: a washing machine, dishwasher, TV, and the bedding and towels are included. There's a highchair if you need one.

You're right in the middle of town. The harbour, shops, and places to eat are a couple of minutes' walk. You know what it's like in Whitby. Fish and chips, cobbled streets, the whole thing. The beach is about a 20 minute walk.

For getting out, you're on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. The Cleveland Way path goes right past. If you fancy a steam train, you can get on at Whitby station and it goes out to Goathland and into the middle of the moors.

Within about half an hour's drive you've got places like Robin Hood's Bay, Sandsend for the beach, and a bit further for the bigger walks on the moors. Scarborough's about 40 minutes if you want a different seaside town.

No pets, sorry.
