The Retreat is a second-floor apartment in Whitby centre. It has one allocated underground parking space. You take an elevator up to the apartment door.
It sleeps six in three bedrooms. There's one main bathroom and an en-suite shower off the main bedroom. The stairs inside the apartment to the top floor are quite steep, just so you know.
The living area is open plan. Doors open onto a balcony that looks out over the rooftops towards the Abbey. The view is good, especially in the evening.
It's a 4 Star place. That means it's well-equipped and comfortable. Everything is included: bedding, towels, electricity. There's a washing machine and a dishwasher.
You're about a five-minute walk down to the harbour and the old town. The nearest shop and a few pubs are about half a mile away. The beach is a mile.
Whitby itself has everything you need: fish and chips, the Abbey, boat trips. For walking, you can pick up the Cleveland Way coastal path right from the town. The North York Moors Railway steam trains go from Grosmont, which is about a fifteen-minute drive. The North York Moors National Park authority site has good walking information.
Further out, within about half an hour, you've got places like Robin Hood's Bay. Good for a fossil hunt. Scarborough is about 40 minutes south for a bigger seaside day out.
No pets, I'm afraid.
