Bernie's Watch

Bernie's Watch is in Whitby. It's a three-storey house that sleeps six. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well-equipped.

You get a proper enclosed garden out the back with a gate. There's a patio, a BBQ, and a lockable shed for bikes or boots. The back looks onto a green area, so you're not right on top of the neighbours.

Inside, it's straightforward. Downstairs is a living room, and an open-plan kitchen and dining area. The kitchen has the usual appliances, plus an air fryer and an electric mixer. French doors open to the garden.

On the first floor, there's a king-size bedroom with an ensuite shower, a double bedroom, and the main bathroom. The third bedroom is up another flight of stairs. It has two single beds that can be joined into a super king. There's a desk setup there with a TV that works as a monitor, if you need it. From that top window, you can see over to the sea.

The stairs are fine, but it is a three-storey house, so there are a few of them.

Location is the main thing. You're up near the Cinder Track, which is the old railway line. You can walk or cycle from there to Robin Hood's Bay or towards Scarborough. The clifftop path down to the beach is a short walk away. A shop and a pub are within half a mile.

Whitby town centre, with the harbour, the abbey, and the shops, is a downhill walk. It's about a mile. If you don't fancy walking back up, there are buses or you can get a taxi.

Within a reasonable drive, you've got Robin Hood's Bay, Staithes, and the North York Moors. The North York Moors National Park website is useful for walking routes. For the local history, the English Heritage page for Whitby Abbey has the details.

Facilities: it's got parking for one car on the drive, WiFi, a washing machine, dishwasher, and bedding and towels are included. It's family-friendly - there's a cot, highchair, and stairgate available. You can bring up to three dogs. There's also an electric vehicle charger.
