Esk View
This is Esk View in Whitby. It’s a big Victorian house that looks straight over the harbour. You can see the abbey from a couple of the bedrooms. It used to belong to a sea captain, built around 1859.
It sleeps twelve people. Five bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. There's a patio and a small bit of lawn with the same harbour view, good for sitting out if the weather's decent.
The house is old, so you get the original features. High ceilings, an open fire. The stairs are a typical Victorian style, so they're a bit steep and winding. It's got a 4 Star rating, which feels right. It's comfortable and well looked after, not just flashy.
You're right in the middle of things. The beach, the harbour, the shops, and the abbey are all a short walk downhill. The pub and a restaurant are about five minutes away. There's a railway line at the bottom of the garden. The steam trains from Whitby to Pickering go past a few times a day. You can hear them, but most people like it. It’s part of the scene.
You can walk into the town along the cobbled streets. Whitby's got its own thing going on, lots of little shops and places to eat. For a proper day out, the North York Moors are right there. Good for walking. The National Trust has a few places like the coast at Ravenscar within half an hour's drive.
Inside, there's a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and parking for a couple of cars on site. We include all the bedding and towels. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. No pets, sorry.
