The Old Bakehouse

The Old Bakehouse is my cottage in Whitby. It's on Church Street, just a few doors up from the 199 steps. It used to be a bakery, so it's a tall, thin house over three floors.

It sleeps five. There are three bedrooms and one bathroom. You get a double on the first floor, which looks out at the abbey, and a single and a twin up on the top floor. The stairs are proper old cottage stairs, so they're steep and a bit narrow.

Downstairs is all one space. The kitchen's at the back, then a dining table, then the sitting area at the front. There's a gas stove that looks like a wood burner. It heats the place up quickly. The WiFi works. There's a TV, a washing machine, and a dishwasher. All bedding and towels are included. I can put a cot in the twin room if you need it.

You really don't need a car. The front door opens onto the street. There's a shop about ten yards to the left, a pub fifty yards to the right, and more restaurants than you could try in a week within a minute's walk. The harbour and the beach are both about five minutes downhill.

If you do drive, there's a parking permit for one car in the West Cliff car park. It's about a ten minute walk from the house.

For days out, Robin Hood's Bay is about fifteen minutes by car. The North York Moors are right there. The North York Moors National Park website has good walking routes. The Whitby Abbey site is useful for tickets and events.

No pets, I'm afraid.
