White Cottage is at the top of Whitby, up by the West Cliff. It's a terraced cottage, but it's got its own small patio with a view over the town and out to sea.
It says it dates to 1535. What that means inside is that it's a bit old-fashioned. The rooms aren't massive. The ceilings are low in places. The stairs are steep, like most cottages here. It sleeps four, in two bedrooms. One bathroom with a shower over the bath. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well looked after.
You can walk down into the town centre in about five minutes. The harbour, the shops, the steps up to the Abbey, it's all right there. The beach is about a ten minute walk downhill. There's a shop and a couple of pubs very close by, maybe 200 yards.
For a day out, the North York Moors are on the doorstep. You can drive to Goathland in about half an hour, which is where they filmed Heartbeat. The steam railway from Pickering stops there. Robin Hood's Bay is a ten minute drive south, it's a good walk along the cliff path from there back to Whitby.
It's got a woodburning stove for cooler nights, and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. One well-behaved dog is allowed.
