Benson’s Gem is on St Ann’s Stairs in Whitby. It’s a one-up, one-down cottage. Sleeps two. There’s a patio out back that catches the sun and has a view over the rooftops.
It’s been completely renovated so everything’s new. The kitchen and living area are open plan downstairs, with the bedroom and shower room upstairs. It’s got a 4 Star rating, which means it’s comfortable and well-finished. It’s all on one floor except for the stairs to the bedroom. They’re steep, as you’d expect.
You’re right off Church Street, which is all cobbles and small shops. The 199 steps up to the Abbey are at the end of the lane. The harbour and the main part of town are a few minutes’ walk down the hill.
The beach is a good walk away, about 15-20 minutes. There’s a local pub nearby. For a proper walk, the Cleveland Way runs along the coast. Robin Hood’s Bay is about a 15 minute drive. The North York Moors National Park starts just outside town.
Inside, there’s a washing machine in a utility cupboard, a dishwasher, and TV. Bedding and towels are included. The place is wheelchair accessible at the entrance, but the stairs and shower room mean it’s not suitable for full mobility access inside. There’s a cot and highchair if you need them.
