Orchard House is in Bowness on Windermere, near the lake. It's a three-storey cottage from around the 1830s, so the proportions are a bit varied.
It sleeps six. There are three bedrooms: a large king-size room at the front on the first floor, a double room with a small ensuite shower on that same floor, and a twin room up on the second floor. That top room has sloping ceilings from the eaves, so mind your head if you're tall. There's one main bathroom on the first floor with a roll-top bath and a separate shower cubicle.
Downstairs has a lounge with a wood burner, a separate dining room, and a decent kitchen with a dishwasher. It's got a 4 Star rating. The wifi is included, as is all the bedding and towels. Parking for one car is on site.
The location is the main thing. You're a short walk down to Bowness village and the lake shore. You can get boats from there, or just wander about. It can get busy in the summer, but you're up the hill from the main bustle.
For walking, you've got plenty of options straight from the door. For a drive, Ambleside is about 15 minutes away. Grizedale Forest is good for cycling and walking trails. If you're into motors, the Lakeland Motor Museum is at the south end of Windermere.
