The estate is 80 acres and you're free to walk around it. The paths will take you down to Hawkshead village, or you can walk across to Tarn Hows for a picnic. It’s quiet up here.
Coniston Water and Windermere are about three miles away by car. The nearest pub is a mile and a half down the hill. Hawkshead village has a few shops.
If you want to get out, Grizedale Forest is close by for walking or cycling. For a day out, you’ve got places like the Beatrix Potter house at Hill Top or the National Trust’s Wray Castle. Tarn Hows is popular. There are some high-end restaurants around, like the ones in Cartmel.
