Rowlandson Ground Cottage is in High Water Head near Coniston. It’s a semi-detached place, quite old. It used to be a monk's retreat from the 1600s. It’s got beams and stone floors, so mind your head in a couple of places.
It sleeps four, in two bedrooms. There’s one bathroom with a shower. It has a 4 Star rating. The heating works well and there’s a woodburning stove for the evenings.
You’re in the woods above Coniston Water. There’s a path through the trees that takes you down to the lake shore. It’s not a long walk. The house feels quite tucked away.
Coniston village is about two miles away. It has a shop and a couple of pubs. Ambleside is five miles. You can get a ferry over to Windermere from near there.
For walking, you’re right in it. Grizedale Forest starts behind the cottage. There are sculptures to find on the trails. Tarn Hows is a mile away and it’s a nice, easy walk around the water. For a bigger day out, the Lake District National Park site has all the maps and routes.
Facilities: there’s a dishwasher, a washing machine, WiFi and a TV. The garden is yours to use. Bedding is included. There’s parking right outside. No pets, sorry.
