Greenbank House
Greenbank House is in Skelwith Bridge, a hamlet just outside Ambleside. It's a detached house with an attached annexe, so it's quite big. It sleeps ten across five bedrooms, with four bathrooms. The rating is 4 Star. It's comfortable and well-equipped, not just a basic shell.
The house looks out over fields towards Wansfell and Loughrigg. The River Brathay is at the bottom of the garden, literally yards away. You can hear it when it's been raining. The garden is large and enclosed, which is good if you've got kids or a dog. We allow one well-behaved pet.
The lounge is on the first floor to make the most of the view. It's got a wood burner. The conservatory is off the kitchen and is a good spot for eating. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a washing machine. There's a TV with an HDMI port so you can plug a laptop in if you want. WiFi is included. Bedding and towels are provided. There's a cot and a highchair.
Outside, there's a sun terrace and plenty of parking on site.
Skelwith Bridge itself is tiny. There's a very good restaurant, Chester's By The River, about 200 yards away. They do cakes and lunches. The Skelwith Force waterfall is a short walk up the river. For a shop, you need to go into Ambleside, which is about three miles.
You're well placed here. Coniston is a ten minute drive. Langdale is about fifteen minutes away for walking. Ambleside and Windermere are both within a fifteen minute drive. For a wider view of what's on offer, the Lake District National Park and National Trust Lake District sites have good information.
