Shambles Cottage is on a quiet back street in Ambleside. It's a terraced slate-fronted cottage, like most of them round here. The front door opens right onto the pavement.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating, which is about right. It's clean and everything works, but it's not a show home. The stairs are a bit steep and narrow, as it says in the notes.
The main thing is the location. You're about a minute's walk from the middle of Ambleside. There's a shop about 200 yards away, and plenty of pubs and restaurants. You can leave the car parked up.
From the upstairs sitting room you get a view over the rooftops to Loughrigg Fell. The kitchen has a big table. There's a washing machine and a dishwasher.
You can walk to Stockghyll Force from the cottage in about ten minutes. The Windermere ferry at Waterhead is a short walk. Grasmere village is a few miles up the road.
For wider planning, the Lake District National Park site has walking routes and weather info. For local history, the National Trust looks after a lot of the land and houses nearby.
Parking is on street with a permit, which we provide. Bedding and towels are included. No pets, sorry.
