This is Bluebell Cottage in Grasmere. It's a stone-built semi-detached villa on a quiet lane. You're about a five minute level walk from the village centre, so it's easy to pop out for a pint of milk or a meal.
It sleeps six. There are three bedrooms and three bathrooms, which is handy. Two of the bedrooms have an en-suite shower room. The main bathroom has a bath. We get the sun in the garden most of the day. It's enclosed, so it's safe for dogs if you have them. We take up to two.
The cottage has a 4 Star rating. It’s comfortable and has kept some nice original features, like the porch and the beamed dining room. There's a wood-burning stove in the living room. The stairs are normal, not too steep. You can park three cars on the drive and there's locked storage for bikes or outdoor gear.
Grasmere itself has the usual village things: shops, a couple of pubs, cafes, and the gingerbread shop. You can get a day pass for the swimming pool at one of the local hotels. Good walks start right from the door. The path to Easedale Tarn is popular, or you can do a gentler loop around Grasmere and Rydal Water.
If you want to drive out, Ambleside is about ten minutes away. Keswick is maybe twenty-five minutes. Bowness-on-Windermere, for the boats and the Beatrix Potter place, is about twenty. The Lake District National Park site has good walking information. The National Trust looks after a lot of the land around here too.
Facilities are what you'd expect: WiFi, TV, washing machine, dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. The kitchen is well-equipped. There's a local pub a few hundred yards away.
