Stockdale Cottage is ours. It's an end of terrace place in Ambleside. The building is about two hundred years old, made from slate. We've done it up. It's been in our family since 1987.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well-equipped.
The location is good. It's set back from the main road, so it's quiet, but you can walk into the village centre in about five minutes. There's a Co-op for groceries, and plenty of pubs and cafes. Lake Windermere is about a ten minute walk away.
If you like walking, you can go straight from the front door. Turn right and you're on the path for Wansfell, or into Blue Hill woods. It's called that because of the bluebells in spring. You can walk over to Troutbeck for a pint. From the back bedroom window, you might see deer early in the morning.
A couple of things to know. There are several steps up to the property from the road. Also, the stairs inside are cottage stairs. They're steep.
For facilities, it's got a woodburning stove, a dishwasher, a washing machine, and WiFi. There's an enclosed patio garden with a BBQ, and parking on site. Bedding and towels are included. No pets, sorry.
For days out, you're in the middle of everything. Grasmere, Coniston, and Langdale are all within half an hour's drive. If you want information on the area, these sites are useful: Lake District National Park and National Trust Lake District.
