Stockdale Cottage
Stockdale Cottage is our place in Ambleside. It's a slate terrace cottage, about two hundred years old. We're John and Maggie, we've owned it since 1987. It's an end terrace.
There are two bedrooms upstairs, so it sleeps four. One bathroom. It's got a four star rating. We've had it all renovated.
The cottage sits up on the side of the valley. There are a few steps up from the main road to get to it, but if you come down the lane a bit there's an easier way in with fewer steps. The stairs inside are fairly steep, which is normal for a place this old.
You're only five minutes on foot from the middle of Ambleside. All the shops, cafes, pubs, and the tourist information are there. Lake Windermere is about ten minutes' walk.
If you turn right out of the house, you're straight onto the footpath for Wansfell. You can go up into Blue Hill woods, which are full of bluebells in the spring. You can walk north towards Kirkstone Pass and come back via the waterfalls, or over to Jenkins Wood and Troutbeck. There's a pub in Troutbeck. From the back bedroom, you can sometimes see deer early in the morning.
The cottage has a wood burning stove, a dishwasher, a washing machine, and wifi. Bedding and towels are included. There's a small enclosed patio garden with a barbecue, and parking for one car on site. No pets, sorry.
