Kirkstone Shepherd's Hut

Kirkstone Shepherd's Hut is just outside Ambleside. It's a detached hut for two, up in the hills a bit. You get your own parking spot right by it.

It's got a three star rating. That means it's clean and has what you need, but it's simple. Inside, it's all one room. There's a double bed at one end. It's a proper bed, not a narrow one. Then there's a small kitchen area with a two-ring hob, a fridge, and a microwave. You can cook a meal. There's a bench seat with a table that folds down.

It has its own bathroom, which is a proper en-suite with a shower and a toilet. It's fully plumbed in. There's underfloor heating and an electric fire if you want it extra warm.

There's no television. The window looks out over the valley. You can sit and watch the weather change. The Wi-Fi works.

Ambleside is about a mile away. You can walk down, but it's a steep hill coming back. The town has all the usual shops, pubs, and places to eat. There are two small cinemas. Waterhead Pier is there if you want to get a ferry on Windermere.

For walking, you're right in it. Stock Ghyll Force waterfall is a short walk from the town centre. The National Trust has Stagshaw Garden nearby. The wider Lake District is on your doorstep.

Other things within a 30 minute drive: you've got Brockhole visitor centre, Wray Castle, the World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness, and the Lakeland Motor Museum near Newby Bridge. You can go sailing, climbing, or riding locally if you book ahead.

Facilities are straightforward: bedding and towels are included. There's parking. The electricity and heating are all included. No pets.
