Kirkstone Shepherd's Hut

Kirkstone Shepherd's Hut is on the hills above Ambleside. It's off by itself, so you've got your own space.

It's a hut. It sleeps two. One room, with a double bed, a small kitchen area, and the bathroom at the end. I'd call it compact, but they've done a good job fitting it all in. You've got a fridge, a two-ring hob, and a microwave. There's an en-suite shower too.

Heating is underfloor, and there's an electric fire as well if it gets cold. There's no television. The WiFi works fine.

Like I said, it's up in the hills. The view from the window is the main thing. You get the sky and the fields.

Ambleside's about a mile down the road. That's where all the shops and pubs are. Waterhead Pier is there too, if you want to get a ferry on the lake. The Stock Ghyll Force waterfall walk starts from the town.

Within half an hour you can get to most of the central Lakes. Windermere, Grasmere, Coniston. The National Trust has a lot of places nearby, like Wray Castle. Lake District National Park has the walking routes.

Facilities: parking right there. Bedding and towels are provided. There's no garden of your own, but you're surrounded by fields.
