Orrest Head Cottage
This is Orrest Head Cottage, up on the hill above Windermere village. It's a detached house, ours, in the grounds of the main Orrest Head House. You get your own private garden with it. The view from there is pretty good, you look out over our veg patch and then straight down to the lake.
It sleeps five. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, so no big queues in the morning. It's a 3 Star place, which is as it says. Comfortable and clean, not a show home. The decor is a bit dated but everything works.
The location is the main thing. You're in National Trust fields up here, very quiet. But the back gate opens straight onto the path through Common Wood. You can be up at the top of Orrest Head in about 20 minutes. It's one of the best short walks going, that first view over the whole of Windermere is something else.
Even though it feels rural, you can walk down into Windermere village in two or three minutes. There are plenty of places to eat and drink, and a Booths supermarket for groceries.
Bowness and the lake shore are about a 15 minute walk downhill. Ambleside is a ten minute drive. Keswick is about half an hour. If you want the bigger hills, the Langdales are roughly 25 minutes by car.
For facilities, it has parking, WiFi, and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and a highchair. There's an electric vehicle charger now too. We take up to two dogs.
