Howe Cottage is in Bowness on Windermere, about a hundred yards from the shops and the lake. It's a 17th century semi-detached place. You get a view of Lake Windermere from the top floor.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's clean and comfortable. As for the stairs, the description page notes they're open, steep, spiral, or narrow in places. Just so you know.
The town centre is right there. Lots of pubs, restaurants, and shops. It's a couple of minutes' walk to the lake shore for the boat cruises. The World of Beatrix Potter is nearby if that's of interest.
For walking, you're right in it. The fells are all around. The Langdales, Coniston Old Man, places like that are a short drive away. You can pick up walking routes from the town.
Facilities: there's a woodburning stove, dishwasher, washing machine, TV, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring two dogs. There's parking on site.
For planning, the Lake District National Park site is useful.
