Hayrake is on the edge of Ambleside. It's a stone cottage, one of the older ones here. You can walk into the village centre in about five minutes.
It sleeps six, in four bedrooms. There's one bathroom. It's a 3 Star place, so it's comfortable and clean but not fancy. The stairs are steep. They're original. The floors are a bit uneven in places too. You'll hear the odd creak. It's that sort of house.
The back garden has a patio and looks out over fields towards the Coniston hills. The view gets better the higher up you are in the house.
Inside, there's an open fire. We leave wood for you. There's a washing machine, WiFi, and parking for one car on the drive. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring one dog.
Ambleside has everything you need: shops, cafes, a few pubs. For walks, you can start right from the door. Stock Ghyll Force is a ten minute walk up through the woods.
Within half an hour's drive you've got Grasmere, Coniston Water, and Langdale. Windermere is about ten minutes away if you want the steamer. For a longer day out, the National Trust looks after quite a few spots around here, like Hill Top or Tarn Hows.
