This is 1 Oaks Farm Cottages, in Ambleside. It's one of a trio of cottages that were part of the old farm. The place sleeps eight, in four bedrooms, and there are two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating.
It's quiet here, but you can walk into Ambleside centre in about ten minutes. There's a shop a few hundred yards away. The local pub is just down the lane.
The cottage is old, sixteenth century. It's beamed and the walls are thick. There's an original fireplace in the living room with a wood-burning stove. You'll hear the stream, Stock Ghyll, from the garden. The stairs are cottage stairs. They're steep and a bit narrow in places, which is normal for a place this age.
The garden is secluded. It's got a terrace with a table. You get a good view of the fells from there.
For walks, you can just step out the door. The Fairfield Horseshoe starts nearby. The Lake District National Park website has all the routes. If you want a proper climb, the famous peaks like Scafell Pike are within a half hour drive. For a gentler day, you can drive to Lake Windermere in a few minutes and take a boat trip from Bowness.
Inside, it's got what you'd need. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. Parking is right outside your door. Sorry, no pets.
