This is 1 Oaks Farm Cottages in Ambleside. It's one of a row of three cottages. The cottage is old, 16th century, so there are low beams inside. The stairs are cottage stairs too, and they're a bit steep.
It sleeps eight across four bedrooms, with two bathrooms. It has a 4 Star rating. We've kept the old character, like the fireplace with a wood-burning stove, but made sure it's clean and comfortable. There's a washing machine and a dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included.
The garden is private and gets the sun. You can sit out there and look at the fells. You can sometimes hear the stream from Stock Ghyll in the garden.
You're about half a mile from the centre of Ambleside, so you can walk in. There are shops and restaurants there. The closest shop is about a five minute walk. There's a local pub nearby as well.
For walking, you're right in the Lake District National Park. The famous Fairfield Horseshoe walk starts close by. You can be at the northern tip of Lake Windermere in a few minutes by car.
Within about half an hour's drive you can get to places like Grasmere, Hawkshead, and Coniston Water. If you want a stately home or garden, National Trust Lake District has several properties nearby. For planning walks and routes, the Lake District National Park site is useful.
There's parking on site. We can provide a cot and a highchair if you need them. No pets, sorry.
