Bowness is busy. It's the main tourist spot on Windermere. You've got the steamers, the boathouses, and all the shops and cafes right there. It's good if you want to be in the middle of things.
For a quieter walk, you can head up to Queen Adelaide's Hill or wander along Cockshott Point. The Lake District National Park site has all the walking routes.
Within half an hour's drive, you can get to Hill Top, Beatrix Potter's farmhouse, or to Coniston Water. Grizedale Forest is good for cycling and there's a sculpture trail. Windermere station is a five minute drive if you're arriving by train.
The facilities are what you'd expect: dishwasher, WiFi, TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. No pets.
