Garth Cottage
Garth Cottage is a place for two people in Near Sawrey. It's a one bedroom apartment, part of a converted farm building. You get your own front door and a parking space right outside.
It's 4 Star, which means it's comfortable and well-equipped. The layout is split-level. You come in on the middle floor into the living area. Then four steps go down to the kitchen. The bedroom and shower room are off a hallway on that lower level. It works fine, you just need to be aware of the steps inside.
To get to the front door, there are seven stone steps up from a shared courtyard. They're fine, but not great if you have real trouble with steps. There's a small outdoor terrace with a table and chairs.
You're right in the village. The Tower Bank Arms pub is a couple of minutes walk. They do good food. Beatrix Potter's house, Hill Top, is basically next door. It's run by the National Trust and gets busy, but it's worth seeing if you're interested.
The village is quiet. You can walk straight out into fields. Esthwaite Water is a short walk away. Hawkshead is two miles down the road for shops and cafes.
You're between Windermere and Coniston. The Windermere car ferry is about a ten minute drive. That gets you over to Bowness quickly. Ambleside is maybe twenty minutes by car. Grizedale Forest is close for walking or cycling.
Facilities: WiFi, TV, parking. Bedding and towels are included. There's a washing machine in an outhouse shared with the other cottage. You can bring up to two dogs.
If you're looking for walks or things to do, the Lake District National Park site is useful.
