The Nest is a one bedroom annexe on a big working farm just outside Ambleside. It used to be the horse carriage house. It sleeps two.
It's high up, so the views are really good. You get a proper feel of being in the valley. It's quiet up there, and dark at night.
The farm is 2700 acres. You'll see Herdwick sheep and Highland cattle around the place. Buzzards are often flying overhead.
It's a 3 Star place. That means it's comfortable and clean, but not luxurious. Everything you need is there. There's a shower, a washing machine, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included.
You have your own patio area. The garden around it is shared with the other cottages on the estate.
It's a good spot for walking straight from the door. You can be in Ambleside on foot in about twenty minutes, though it's a steep walk back up. By car it's just a couple of minutes.
If you've got a bigger group, you can book it along with Willow, Hazel, and Oak Cottages. They're all on the same estate. You can even land a helicopter in the grounds, if that's your thing.
For days out, you're right in the middle of everything. Windermere is ten minutes by car. Grasmere and Rydal Water are about the same. Good walks are everywhere. Further afield, Keswick and Coniston are within half an hour.
