The Gatehouse is Cottage One. It's part of a small group of four cottages built into the old Victorian waterworks near Cayton Bay. It's a detached stone cottage.
It sleeps four people in two bedrooms, a double and a twin. There's one bathroom with a shower and a seat. The place has a 3 Star rating. It’s comfortable and clean, not luxurious. The owners live nearby and will usually come and say hello when you arrive, if they're around.
You get your own private, enclosed lawn garden at the front. There's also a shared garden area with a play frame for kids. Parking is right outside.
The beach at Cayton Bay is about a mile down the lane. It's a sandy surfing beach, less crowded than Scarborough. Scarborough itself is a ten-minute drive up the coast. You've got all the usual seafront things there.
For a walk, you can join the Cleveland Way along the cliffs south towards Filey or north to Scarborough. The views are good. RSPB Bempton Cliffs is about half an hour away by car. You can see puffins and other seabirds on the cliffs there in season.
Filey and Bridlington are each about twenty minutes south. York is just under an hour's drive inland. You can also get the train from Scarborough station.
Inside, there's a washing machine, a dishwasher, Wi-Fi, and a TV. A travel cot, highchair, and stairgate are there if you need them. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs.
There's a local shop and a pub serving food about half a mile away in the village of Cayton.
