Red Wood Lodge is a static caravan on Lady Edith's Holiday Park, just outside Scarborough. It's a 4 Star rated one, which means it's in good nick, clean and comfortable, but it's not a fancy cottage. It sleeps six people. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom. You can bring up to three dogs.
The park itself has a family-friendly bar and a play area for kids. You can get a fishing permit for the mere if that's your thing. The site is wooded, so it feels a bit tucked away, but you're only about ten minutes by car from the centre of Scarborough.
Scarborough's got the two bays. North Bay is a bit quieter, with beach huts and the Sea Life Centre. South Bay is the classic seaside stuff: arcades, fish and chips, the works. You can walk from one to the other along the prom. The castle sits on the headland between them.
Locally, Peasholm Park is nice for a stroll or a paddle boat. The Alpamare waterpark is out towards the Sealife Centre, with outdoor pools that are open year-round. For walks, the Cleveland Way coastal path is right there. North York Moors National Park is about a twenty minute drive inland if you want proper countryside.
You can get to Whitby or Filey in under half an hour. Robin Hood's Bay is a bit closer. Bridlington's about forty minutes south.
In the lodge: it's open plan. There's a washing machine, a dishwasher, WiFi, and TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking right outside. It's all on one level, so no stairs to worry about.
