Lodge Farmhouse is in Scalby, which is just outside Scarborough. It's a detached farmhouse, so you get it to yourself. It's on a site with other cottages owned by the Duchy of Lancaster. The main thing is the location, right on the cliffs. You get a view of the sea from up there.
It sleeps eight. Four bedrooms, two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and well looked after, with decent space for a group. The garden is enclosed, which is good if you bring a dog.
There's a local pub in the village, about a ten-minute walk. Scarborough itself is a couple of miles away. You've got the two beaches there, North Bay and South Bay, and the castle up on the headland. The town has all the usual seaside things, shops and restaurants and an open-air theatre.
For walking, the Cleveland Way path goes right past the door. You can walk along the cliff top towards Filey or back into Scarborough. The RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton Cliffs is about half an hour's drive up the coast. It's good if you like that sort of thing.
Further afield, Whitby is about 30 minutes north. They've got the Abbey and the whole Dracula connection. You can get the steam train from there into the North York Moors. York is just over an hour's drive if you fancy a city day.
Facilities wise: it's got a wood burner, a dishwasher, washing machine, TV, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair. Parking is on site. You can bring one dog. There's an electric vehicle charger.
