Haydock Cottage is one of the cottages at Scalby Lodge, near Scarborough. It's a bungalow, so everything's on one level. It's not detached though, it's part of a row. You get your own private garden and patio area, which is enclosed.
It sleeps four. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's well looked after and comfortable. We take one well-behaved dog.
The place is owned by the Duchy of Lancaster, so the maintenance is good. The fixtures and fittings are decent. You've got a woodburning stove, a dishwasher, parking right outside, and there's an electric vehicle charger. Bedding and towels are included.
Location wise, it's on the clifftop. You can walk straight out onto the Cleveland Way path. The sea views are good. It's about a mile and a half from Scarborough itself, so you're away from the busy bit but it's a quick drive or a decent walk.
In Scarborough, you've got the castle, the two bays, and the Open Air Theatre. The North York Moors National Park is right on the doorstep. For birdwatching, RSPB Bempton Cliffs is about a 20-minute drive north.
Whitby is roughly half an hour by car. You can get the steam train from there into the moors. York is just over an hour if you fancy a city day.
There's a local pub in Scalby village. The on-site play area is handy if you've got kids.
