Driftwood

Driftwood is a Victorian town house in Scarborough. It's in a quiet street off North Marine Road, near the North Bay.

It sleeps eight in four bedrooms. There are three bathrooms, one on each floor, which helps with a big group. The stairs are normal house stairs, nothing too steep.

It's a tall, thin house. You come in to a big open living and dining area on the ground floor. Through the glass doors there's a small courtyard garden with seating and lights.

The kitchen has what you'd need: dishwasher, washing machine, dryer. There's a utility area too.

Bedrooms are spread out. On the first floor there's a very large master bedroom with a kingsize bed and an en-suite shower room. The other three bedrooms are higher up. One double has a small separate office area with a desk. The two twins are higher again, one is right at the top under the eaves with Velux windows.

The top floor also has a games room with a console, toys, and a couple of sofa beds. It's a useful space for kids if the weather turns.

Everything's included: bedding, towels, WiFi.

Location is the main thing. You can walk to plenty. There's a green at the end of the street, then it's five minutes across North Marine Road to the cliff tops. The view over the North Bay and the castle is good from there. You can often see dolphins.

From there, a path winds down to the beach in about ten minutes. The promenade is flat and goes for miles. You can walk south to the South Bay and the Spa, or north past the beach huts. The bus runs along it if you don't fancy walking back.

Peasholm Park is ten minutes walk. It's got a lake, boats, and a cafe. The town centre, the beach, and Scarborough Castle are all about a ten-minute walk.

There are takeaways, restaurants, and pubs a few streets away. A local supermarket is a short walk.

For day trips, you're on the North York Moors coast. Robin Hood's Bay and Whitby are about forty minutes north. Filey and Bridlington are south. The RSPB reserve at Bempton Cliffs is about half an hour south, good for puffins and seabirds.

York is under an hour by car. You can get the train direct from Scarborough station, which is a ten-minute drive or a bus ride away.

The house has a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable, clean, and well-equipped. You can bring two dogs.
