Fell Cottage

Fell Cottage is in Scalby, just outside Scarborough. It's one of fifteen cottages on the Scalby Lodge estate, on the clifftop. Yes, the estate is owned by the Duchy of Lancaster, but here on the ground it's just a group of holiday lets. The cottage is a bungalow, so everything is on one level, which is handy.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom with a shower. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's well-kept and comfortable. The garden is enclosed, which is good if you're bringing the dog. You can bring one dog.

The place has a woodburning stove for cooler evenings. There's a washing machine, dishwasher, TV, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and highchair if you need them. Parking is on site, and there's an electric vehicle charger.

You're a few minutes' drive from Scarborough itself. The North Bay and South Bay beaches are there. The castle is worth a look. There's a local pub in Scalby, a short walk away. For a longer walk, you can pick up the Cleveland Way right nearby. The National Trust Yorkshire Coast page is useful for that.

If you drive for about half an hour, you can get to Whitby. The North York Moors Railway runs from there. The RSPB sanctuary at Bempton Cliffs is about a 40-minute drive for birdwatching. York is just over an hour away if you fancy a city day.

That's about it. It's a solid base for the coast and the moors.
