Springthorpe Cottage is in Scalby, which is basically a village on the edge of Scarborough. It’s one of fifteen cottages here on the estate, a place called Scalby Lodge. It’s up on the cliffs, so you get the sea views without being right in the town.
The cottage sleeps three. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It’s got a 4 Star rating, which means it’s well kept. It’s open plan downstairs. There’s a wood burner for cooler evenings, and parking right outside.
Being part of a group means there are shared bits. There’s a kids' play area, which is handy if you’ve got them. There’s also an electric vehicle charger on site.
Scalby itself has a couple of pubs and shops, it’s a five minute drive or a twenty minute walk into Scarborough proper. Scarborough has the two bays, North and South Beach, and the castle up on the headland. The North York Moors National Park starts just inland from here.
The Cleveland Way footpath runs right past the cottage gate. You can walk south into Scarborough along the cliffs, or north towards Filey. RSPB Bempton Cliffs is about half an hour’s drive up the coast if you like seabirds.
Whitby is roughly thirty minutes drive north. York is over an hour, but it’s a straightforward drive.
Facilities: there's a washing machine, dishwasher, wifi, and a TV. Bedding and towels are included. A cot and highchair are there if needed. No pets, sorry.
For planning wider trips, the North York Moors National Park site is useful.
