Tavern House

Tavern House is in St Mawes, right on the seafront. You look straight out over the bay. The house is old, parts of it are meant to be from the 1500s. It was probably an inn for the castle originally.

It sleeps seven. Four bedrooms, two bathrooms. It's a 4 Star, so it's comfortable and well-equipped. It's not a show home, it's a family house by the sea.

The best thing is the view. You get it from nearly every room. You can watch the ferries and the boats going across to Falmouth. The front garden is paved, with a table and chairs. That's where you'll sit.

The house is right above Tavern Beach. The name comes from the house. You can walk down to the beach in a minute. St Mawes Castle is a short walk away too, it's English Heritage. The village shops and the harbour are also just along the road.

A few things to know. The back garden is up some steep steps from the kitchen. It's got a little lawn and a patio, but it's not great for very young kids unsupervised. The stairs inside are normal, but they're cottage stairs. The parking is in the village car park, not at the house.

Inside, there's a good-sized living room and a separate dining room that seats eight. Both have French doors to the front. The kitchen has what you need: cooker, dishwasher, fridge-freezer. There's a utility room with a washer/dryer. We provide all the bedding and towels. There's a cot if required.

No pets, I'm afraid. But if you have bad allergies, you should know that dogs have stayed here in the past.

For things to do, the National Trust and Visit Cornwall sites are useful. You can get the ferry over to Falmouth. The Roseland Peninsula is good for walking. The Lizard is about a 30 minute drive if you want to go that far.
