Rodney

Rodney is a cottage in North Sunderland, part of Seahouses. It's opposite the church. You'd think it's small from the front, but it's actually quite big inside.

It sleeps four, in two bedrooms. Both have kingsize beds and their own bathrooms. One bathroom is en-suite, the other is a few steps off the landing and has an old cast iron bath. The stairs are open, so they're a bit of a feature.

The place was done up in 2020. We kept the old stone walls and beams everywhere, even in the bathrooms. The floors downstairs are limestone flags, with underfloor heating. Upstairs, the floors are the original wooden ones, about 200 years old. The kitchen is in what was a granary, so the ceiling is high.

It's a 5 Star place. That means everything's good quality. The beds have pocket sprung mattresses and white company bedding. It's adults only.

You're set back from the road so it's quiet, but the harbour and shops are about a ten minute walk. The nearest beach is a mile away.

From here, you can walk along the coast to Bamburgh along the dunes. The beach there is huge. Boat trips to the Farne Islands for the seabirds and seals leave from Seahouses harbour. Alnwick with its castle and garden is about a twenty minute drive inland.

Facilities: it's got parking, WiFi, a washing machine, a dishwasher, and an electric vehicle charger. There's a wood burner in the living room and an electric stove in the kitchen area. A patio out the back. We take up to two dogs.
