Puffin Cottage

Puffin Cottage is in Buckton, which is a tiny village on the coast near Bempton. It's an old terraced cottage, built sometime in the 1800s. That means the walls are a bit wonky and the floors aren't level. I think that's part of the charm. It sleeps four people in two bedrooms, and there's one bathroom with a shower.

It's got a four star rating. That's down to things like the woodburning stove, the wifi, and having a dishwasher. It's comfortable, not grand.

The garden is at the back. It's enclosed, which is good if you're bringing a dog. There's a bit of lawn, a rockery, and a patio with seating.

There's a village shop and a pub just a few minutes' walk away. The RSPB sanctuary at Bempton Cliffs is right on the doorstep. You can walk there. It's famous for the seabirds, especially the puffins in season.

The coast path here is very good for walking. You can head south towards Flamborough Head or north towards Filey. The beaches at Flamborough, Filey, and Bridlington are all within about a fifteen to twenty minute drive.

Further afield, Scarborough is about half an hour away. York is a good day out, just over an hour by car or you can get the train from Bempton station.

For facilities, you've got parking for one car, a washing machine, a cot and highchair if you need them. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring one well-behaved dog.

If you're planning walks or birdwatching, the RSPB Bempton Cliffs site has all the details. For the wider area, the North York Moors National Park site is useful.
