The Roost is a holiday cottage in Buckton. It's on the grounds of what used to be a farm. The building was a stable block and a hayloft, converted into three separate cottages. This one is detached and sleeps eight.
There are four bedrooms and each one has its own bathroom. That's handy with a full house. It's got a 4 Star rating.
The garden is enclosed and is just for you. There's also a shared area for children to play, with a football field and a meadow walk. You can let the kids run about there.
The RSPB Bempton Cliffs reserve is right on the doorstep. You can walk there from the cottage in about 25 minutes, or drive in five. It’s where all the seabirds are. Puffins, gannets, that sort of thing. It’s good even if you’re not a serious birdwatcher. The RSPB website has details on what you might see.
For the coast, Flamborough Head is close. Good for clifftop walks. The bigger beaches are at Bridlington, Filey, and Scarborough, all within about half an hour's drive.
Cycling is a big thing here. The owner is a cyclist and has set up a proper bike store with tools and a wash area. The Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Route starts nearby.
You're well placed for days out. Dalby Forest and the North York Moors National Park are to the north. The Howardian Hills are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. For a stately home, Burton Agnes Hall is very close, or Castle Howard is about 45 minutes away. York is roughly an hour's drive.
In the village, there's a local pub called The White Horse about half a mile away. There's also a post office and a shop. A cafe and art gallery is in Bempton, just the next village over.
Facilities: it has all the basics like a washing machine, dishwasher, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and highchair if you need them. You can bring one dog. There's parking on site and an electric vehicle charger.
If you're coming with a bigger group, you can book this cottage together with the other two on site, Puffin Cottage and Guillemot Cottage.
